Getting Savvy About Hemp Use

When thinking about hemp, we assume that its use is tied to crazy hallucinations or ravenous hunger but hemp seeds and hemp oil do not fit in this category. These do not get people high, but in some instances, can actually provide major health benefits and improved quality of life. Some benefits include improvement in rheumatoid arthritis and joint pain symptoms, strengthening digestive capacity, improving heart health, promoting stronger hair, skin and nails, and protecting the body from cancer-causing intruders.

Hemp seeds fibrous nature also benefit our gut health and strengthens the probiotics that balance inflammation and boost our immune systems. This highly-nutritious superfood, boasts all 20 amino acids—and all 9 essential ones—making hemp seeds a complete protein source. Essentially, improved digestion, balanced hormones and increased metabolism are among the commonly-experienced effects of hemp seed consumption.

Be careful though, because hemp oil, in particular, is an anticoagulant. This means anyone who has had heart disease and taken blood thinners should likely avoid it. It also should not be heated, as the increased temperatures would turn the healthy fat into saturated fats.

Instead, mix the nutritious (unheated) oil into salad dressings, add it to your favorite smoothie blend, or add it to your favorite lotion or bath blend. And if you want to enjoy the benefits of the seeds, be sure to store them in a cool, dry place or keep them in your fridge as they are sensitive to light as well as heat. This might just be another superfood that can be easily integrated into your daily routine!
